SEGA to Open Online Casino and Poker Room

Written by Haylie | Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Back in March of this year, it was confirmed that SEGA Games Ltd.’s application to the Alderney Gambling Control Commission had been granted. Now all signs are a go for SEGA to enter into the online gambling market. The company has been approved for a full interactive license in its jurisdiction, and the time to initiate operations is now.

SEGA is not new to gaming software and will complement the online gambling industry perfectly, especially now that they are partnered with Playtech, one of the leading online gambling software companies in the world. Together with the SEGA Pass platform, Playtech will implement the finishing touches on the forthcoming SEGA Casino and SEGA Poker sites. The most exciting part is that the SEGA branded characters like Sonic the Hedgehog that will be incorporated into the games. Other blasts from the past to look forward to are remakes of old SEGA games like Virtual Fighter.

A SEGA spokesperson said of the emerging endeavour, “The Alderney Gambling Control Commission provides the most comprehensive gaming regulations with the strictest requirements and as such is recognizes as the most reputable online gaming jurisdiction. This provides as excellent fit with Sega’s regulatory compliant strategy, and we are pleased to be approved by this leading authority.”

It is also hoped thSegaGames is a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. which is experiencing a little financial drop from it usually strong position. It is expected that the introduction of online casinos and poker to the line up of offerings will boost their revenues significantly.

Post-licence red tape, the games will be tested and the systems documented, which is a required step in the process before any games can go public and websites opened. Once the projects are launched, they will be re-evaluated by the Commission in order to ensure all license provisions are being adhered to, which should be no problem, as SEGA is a reputable subsidiary of SEGA Sammy Holdings, Inc, a company based in Japan but operating all over the world. This venture serves as an important prospect for the parent company that has otherwise fallen on rough times financially and is hoping that the online gambling enterprise will boost revenue and bring the company’s profits back up.
