Casino Protection Software

Written by Haylie | Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

A software developer in Canada has come up with a program that is designed specifically to prevent minors from being able to gamble online. The software, which is targeted towards parents, will keep those who aren’t old enough from accessing online gambling web sites from their home computers. The selling point here is that no longer will there be a need to nationally ban online gambling.

BetStopper gambling blocking software is already being utilized by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, which is simply installed on the PC in order to filter entry to Internet casinos. Federal attempts such as the UIGEA that act to prohibit online gambling are typically enacting on the purpose of protecting minors from having access to Internet gambling, but programs like BetStopper can put the power in the hands of the parents, thereby eliminating the need for government interference.

Nova Scotia residents actually have access to BetStopper for free if they would like to use it in their homes (or businesses). While previous attempts at a software of this caliber have been unsuccessful, BetStopper has been effective and surpassed all tests that it has undergone. It is actually a refined version of a similar software program that allows parents to restrict access to a variety of adult-related web sites, InternetSafety’s Safe Eyes. This program also allows parents to block access to or monitor use of social networking sites, email, and Internet usage in general.

BetStopper cannot be purchased in the US yet, but it can be licensed out of Nova Scotia by contacting the NSGC. But as an alternative method to solving the problem, if the US and other nations could find a way to provide this product or others like it to their citizens for a cheap price or better yet, free, the millions of dollars that is spent on enforcing legislature like the UIGEA could be put to better use.
